Somerset Station - the largest mixeduse development ever approved by the Borough of Somerville.

Inspired recently acquired a 31-acre property in Somerville, N.J., which will serve as the future site for Somerset Station. Purchased from the New Jersey Transit Corporation, Somerset Station will be located along NJ Transit’s Raritan Valley line, and will include 14 apartment buildings and 156 townhomes; two parking garages; 4,000 square feet of retail space and a 2,600-square-foot community civic center. Inspired is the Master Developer in collaboration with Avalon Bay and Pulte Homes.

The mixed-use development started construction in summer 2019. Inspired received approval for the acquisition via a unanimous vote from Somerville’s Planning Board in May 2018, after numerous proposals from other developers had been denied over the last three decades — further solidifying the company’s stature to undertake and follow through on community-focused developments on challenging sites. The project represents a vision for the transformation of the borough’s landfill redevelopment area, providing significant economic benefits to the borough.

Somerset Station is the largest mixed-use development ever approved by the Borough of Somerville. The parking deck, which will be the first structure to be built, is set to replace the existing commuter parking lot adjacent to the train station. The new community civic center facility will provide much-needed space for future borough council and municipal boards meetings. Additionally, with a focus on sustainability, more than 300 trees will be planted along the residential streets within the new community.

The full development process is expected to be completed in 2023.

Proof it can be done— Somerset Station is the largest mixed-use development ever approved by the Borough of Somerville.
